Only hip3m1/2/4 left! :)
- Robert and Rickard ran alpha001 in 0:06 on both easy
and nightmare.

a whole seven seconds faster than the 2-player.

Quake.. Naked?!? - 4:45 PM
That's right the "surprise" I had waiting for you was a new site,
Quake Done Naked! The site
is basically like SDA except for the demos you send in are done without the
use of any weapons, many thanks to Nolan's
patch.
The whole goal is to kill all, or as many enemies as possible, in under 10:00
without the use of any weapons. I won't waste any time explaining it here,
just
visit the page and find
out for yourself! Also, many thanks to Kip who came up with this whole idea.

More Maps! - 6:48 AM
Hey I'm finally adding some more maps, so you can stop bugging me about
that now Optic :P
- First we have The Alpha Project.
Using an obvious shortcut, Mr Shambler and Scrad did a coop nightmare run of it in 0:08, back when Shambler
reviewed it.
Ilkka managed to pull of the shortcut by himself in 0:10.
- Next is The Desolate Outpost,
which is reviewd on the same page above at TeamShambler.
Shambler and Scrad did another coop nightmare run of this level, getting 0:40.
Ilkka also did an easy run by himself in 0:38.
- #3 is Stronghold of the Battereds,
reviewed here.
Mr Shambler did an easy run of this one in 1:01.
- #4 is a doom conversion level, using the Hipnotic progs: Return
to Phobos. No demos here...
- And finally, the last new map for now, is Curse
of the Pharoah, reviewed here.
Evan whipped up a quick easy run in 0:46 just before this update.
I expect lots of table filling.

Justin Fleck and I did a couple cooperative demos:
Nolan and Justin also did a few Hipnotic cooperative demos:
Daniel Hansson and Daniel Andersson (both daniels and two s's in the last name) did an Easy 100% of
BadLand2 in
2:48.
And finally, Nolan and I did an Easy 100% of E4M6 in 1:43.
Check back on friday for a new speed running announcement!

Fixed...... - 6:15 AM
Ok, I fixed everything up and updated all the zips again. So if you already downloaded the
new v1.7 of the mods, you should get them again.
Thursday, October 5th by Nolan
On second thought - 4:00 AM
Well I just encountered a crash in the new SoAstats v1.7 that could affect them all.
So I removed them for now, until I fix them in a bit... sorry :P
Wednesday, October 4th by Nolan
v1.7 of stats mods released - 7:30 AM
I have released new versions of all eight varations of QdQstats. The three main
new things are that it fixes the old "statue bug", when a monster would very
rarely just be a statue that you couldn't kill. It counts monster kills in
coop as frags, so you can see who gets more kills, and it fixes problems with
coop/impulse 9 and keys/weapons that trigger stuff (ex: if you do impulse 9, you can still
run through e1m6 normally). Probably most people only need plain old
QdQstats.
You can also get the SoA, DoE, BB, zer and RDE versions from the
QdQstats page.
The other two are
alk07,
where I updated alk07progs.zip, and
jzblue
where I just replaced the progs in the map zip.
So, updating isn't really required ... but hey, I recommend it anway! :)

12 seconds faster than the 2 player one.
- Close to the same group, Johan/Daniel/Daniel/Carl/Fredrik/Jonny did a 6player
easy 100% of e2m2 in 0:41,

I promise new levels will be added this week, unless something terrible happens :)

No update yet... - 5:35 PM
Just writing to say that I can't do a full demo update until sometime Sunday, but
you can find all unposted demos on my ftp, using
this link,
which should work in all browsers.
Thursday, September 28th by Evan
Suck Me Sideways! - 11:39 AM
My first single player run in a year or so is an Easy run of
p_se_4 in
0:37., improving Marlo's run by 10 seconds.
Now I will go to sleep and leave the rest of the demo work-load to Nolan :)
Wednesday, September 27th by Nolan
filewhat? - 7:50 AM
Hey, just a notice that we won't have problems with fileplanet malfunctining
anymore, since we put up a new script to generate the links ourselves, and
included is a link to the ftp on my computer.
Here
is an example.
Also, the demostats
page now lists the number of free spaces left for 2-player coop demos in the
id and hipnotic maps, since cooping is so popular lately. So, as I said, that
whole 0 thing didn't last long :) I will also be adding more level as soon as
I can.
One more change is that now every player has a player stats page. You can
get to them from one of the player
comparison pages and clicking on the names.
Friday, September 22nd by Nolan
The tables are FULL! - 7:45 AM
It's really true!
Hey, you know that page that shows how many free spaces are still in the tables?
Well the total number had been decreasing for quite a while... and it now
reads a big phat 0. Check
it out... oh but it won't last :P
Here's the demos I did to finish it up:
- Nightmare 100% of gatordiv in 4:43.
- NH of village in 6:42.
- NH of placebo in 4:22.
- NH of wishes in 3:14.
- NH of oblivion in 8:19.
Oh no, it's the end of "tablefilling"! Ah, just for now....
Lots more single player demos:
- Jozsef Szalontai did a pak of demos:
- Easy run of commctr in 0:33, two seconds faster.
- Easy run of crucible in 0:09. If this isn't unbeatable I'll give up ... uh something.
- Nightmare run of crucible in 0:09 too.
- Nightmare run of e4m8 in 0:48, three
seconds faster than Ilkka. First id-run improvement in a while, I think.
- Nightmare run of phallusy in 0:31, two seconds faster than Martin.
- Justin Fleck actually did some single player demos too:
- Easy 100% of mexx3 in 2:27, 33 seconds faster than Matthias.
- EH of ih1m2 in 1:50, four seconds faster than Esa.
- Nightmare run of ih1m2 in 1:22, 28 seconds faster than Esa.
- Nightmare 100% of ih1m2 in 2:09, 41 seconds faster than Esa.
- Nightmare 100% of mexx in 3:40, 1:02 faster than Matthias.
- NH of mexx4 in 4:09, 1:03 faster than Matthias.
- NH of mexx5 in 4:38, 1:23 faster than Mattias. (not a typo, hehe)
- Richard Skidmore returns with two demos:
- Nightmare 100% of hayduke in 2:03, 50 seconds faster than Matthias.
- Easy 100% through the first ep of the Rogue pak in 24:02, 3:04 faster than Tim.
- Evan improved Optic's easy 100% of bbelief3 by five seconds to get 1:35.
- Valeriy Brumistrov is back at improving the end map again... he got
1:57
for the nightmare 100% by skipping the lightning gun.
And more coop-y-ness on e3m5:
- Robert and Rickard improved Optic and I's nightmare run that we had just
done by five seconds to get 0:39.
- Optic and I did the nightmare 100% in 1:41.
'Tis a day to remember.... a few years ago there were hundreds of holes in
the tables and some doubted they would ever be filled. Now they finally are.
I just want to say.... IT'S ABOUT TIME! hehe.
I didn't make links to the maps on this update because I already spent
too much time on it... you know where to find them. Oh and I know I forgot
at least one demo... it will be on the next (non-rushed) update.

CooperativEvaNolan - 8:19 AM
Nolan and I decided fill some empty
Beyond Belief spaces.
Expect more cooperative demos soon!

The Project That Never Was... - 8:31 AM
About two years ago Ilkka and I embarked on a rather interesting project involving the axe. Our goal was to run through all of Quake on Easy, killing everyone with nothing more than an axe. Unfortunately, school started right during the middle of the project, however, I am trying to finish off some of the several levels left to complete.
Download the first demo from the project (refilm included) to get the idea of this very strange project. If anyone with a good amount filming experience would like to contribute to the filming portion then please email me! I will decide on if there will be a filmed version only if I can get enough help on filming! I'm stuck on ideas of how to complete E2M4 (buttons on the end) so I can't give a definate release date but expect the final release to be sometime before Christmas :)
Monday, September 18th (2nd update) by Evan
Yet Another.. - 8:45 AM
To add to the already overwhelming slew of cooperative demos Nolan and I decided to do an Easy 100% of
Beyond Belief level 2. After some lag outs we got a solid time of
1:09.
Judging by my location FilePlanet is still down! All is not lost though, Nolan's FTP contains this & other new demos.
Monday, September 18th by Nolan
More goodness - 5:42 AM
Yeah the title is lame I know. Note: fileplanet is unresponsive as I post this,
so the demo links could all be broken for all I know... I have ideas to avoid
this in the future... For now, you'll have to use
my
ftp to get the new demos. (This goes straight to the "after june 4th" section
and this link will work even in IE...)
Here's all the single player demos:
- As seen on his page, Mr Shambler improved
my easy run through mexx10
by nine seconds by inventing/finding a new shortcut, to get
2:18.
- "Nonameyet" improved Stefan's easy 100% of coagula
by three seconds to get 1:49.
Three guesses as to who this really is.
- Optic improved Matthias's nightmare run through ikspq2
by eight seconds to get 1:41.
- Optic also did a marathon run through Beyond Belief
on easy, and got a time of 3:39.
- Stefan filled up the last holes in the "custom episodes" tables by doing
the last Nightmare 100%s on PSE. First he did pse3
in 4:40
and then pse4
in 4:04.
- I did a nightmare 100% of armorgod
in 4:34.
- Matthias Belz did a nightmare 100% of polygon2
in 4:35, new.
- Will Marsh (remember him?) did a nightmare run through the jzblue
episode in a time of 0:52,
filling the hole. Oh and he only did it because Ken did it in 0:58.
And now for the newest slew of coop demos:
- Optic and I keep doing nightmare 100%s on id maps. We did e1m8 in
1:06.
- e2m1 in 0:59.
This is only seven seconds slower than the EH coop, despite there being more
than twice the monsters.
- e2m2 in 1:09,
23 seconds faster than Markus's single player (only NH Markus ever did...)
- Evan joined up with us and we did two 3-player Nightmare 100%s: e3m1 in
0:50
(15 seconds faster than the 2-player) and e4m1 in 0:53
(16 seconds faster then the single player [no 2p]).
- Optic and I also did a nightmare run through e3m5 in 0:44,
18 seconds faster than the single player.
- Simon and Daniel did the first coop on e3m6, an easy 100%, in
1:37.
- Evan and Cameron decided to do some coop too. They did an easy 100%
of bbelief3 in 1:10.
- They also did an easy 100% of e4m3 in 1:01,
29 seconds faster then the single player record.
- Johan and Carl did an easy run of commctr
in 0:34,
one second faster the the single player time.

American's Strike Back! - 2:45 AM
American's are back in the house, so go run your pasty white asses back to your 'pubs' and sip on some 'lagar' or whatever you guys call beer.
Justin and I did a couple of 100% Nightmare demos.
- e3m2 in 1:05, improving our time by 4 seconds.
- e4m2 in 1:21, new to the tables.
Nolan and Flecker also did some Nightmare 100%'s.
- e1m3 in 1:33, new to the tables.
- e1m5 in 1:00, new to the tables.
I have nothing against pub's or pasty skin so don't be offended.

QdQwav - 7:09 PM
Just in case you've been living under the proverbial rock, you should get
QdQwav the newest QdQ nightmare run through Quake.
Some of the demos that I revelead the times of but not the demos, back on July 4th,
were part of this so they are now available from the tables. Specifically on
e1m3,
e2m2,
e3m1,
e4m2, and
e4m3.

Lots of custom demos - 6:59 AM
Here's the long promised demo update...
Daniel Magnusson decided to take over the map mntbase2, as well as doing
a few other demos.
- He improved Optic's easy run by one second to get 0:54.
- He improved Optic's easy 100% by nine seconds to get 1:07.
- He improved Matthias Belz's nightmare run by 27 seconds to get 1:07.
- He improved Matthias's nightmare 100% by 24 seconds to get 1:27.
- He improved Optic's nightmare 100% marathon through ep1 by 54 seconds to
get 13:57.
- He did a coop with Simon Nordberg, easy 100% of e1m3 in 0:52,
a three second improvement over Robert and Alex.
I did tons of table fillers and other improvements:
- Easy 100% of alk07 in 6:27.
- Nightmare run of alk07 in 1:36.
Nobody else ever did a demo on this map except me... I guess that's a good way for me to gain records then :)
- Nightmare run of avatar in 5:27.
- Nightmare 100% of avatar in 6:21.
- After I did avatar on nightmare, I figured I could improve the demos on
easy, so I did... got 5:29
for the easy run, 50 seconds faster than Esa, and 5:37
for the easy 100%, 53 seconds faster than Marlo.
- Nightmare run of czg04 in 2:08.
- Nightmare 100% of czg04 in 5:38.
- Nightmare run of placebo in 3:12.
- Nightmare run of polygon2 - the long way - in 0:25.
This turned out to be not as long as I figured it would... but again I was the
only one to ever do it!
- Nightmare run of well in 2:13.
- Marathon nightmare run through the 2nd episode of the hipnotic pak, the
last hole in the hipnotic marathon table, in 4:30.
More coops from me and other people:
- I did an easy 100% of hip1m4 with Warren Hammond (Virusss) in
1:07.
- And I did an 100% of hipdm1 with Optic in 0:25.
- I did an 3 player easy run of pb1
with Josh and Warren in 0:23.
- And I did another marathon coop with Optic... ep1 again, this time an
easy 100%, in a time of 5:44.

RDE Marathon - 1:07 AM
Yea, someone has *finally* improved my nightmare 100% marathon of all of RDE. Stefan did the thing in
18:34 which is an embarassing amount of seconds
faster than my demo (more than 700 seconds, urgh).
I really should be updating the RDE tables, I know, but I can't at the moment. Updating the SpeedCon page is neccessary
too (I still got some pics that were never posted) - I'll make sure that gets done 'soon'.

Another QdQ release! - 6:35 AM
Now that you've fainted from seeing the headline, you should know it's not
actually out yet. It will be out on Wednesday... and we've planned an IRC
party. Check the
QdQ page for details.
I should be posting demos tomorrow, but dont forget you can get them from
my ftp...

New Coop - 5:16 PM
Justin and I did a Nightmare 100% coop of E3M2 in
1:09. Download it, its uhh fantabulous..

I'm drawing a blank - 4:23 AM
Just a reminder that you can find new demos before they're posted to the news
by using
my ftp,
but I've noticed that it doesn't work in IE... what can I say except "IE sucks!" :)
The ftp should usually be up all the time, except from approx. 7:00-16:00 CET when
I'll be asleep. But it never hurts to try it.
On another note, the problem that Netscape had with .dz files on certain
servers wasn't it's fault, and it wasn't my fault... it was the webservers fault.
It has been fixed for the gamespy servers, so you shouldn't have that problem
anymore.
And now for your regularly scheduled demos.
- Thomas Stubgaard improved Alex's easy 100% of e3m5 by one second to get
1:33.
- Thomas also improved Alex's nightmare 100% of e3m5, but he improved this
one by a bit more -- 25 seconds, to get 2:01.
- Martin Selinus is crazy :P He ran through all of Quake on easy in
15:48,
1:17 faster than Daniel's entry just two weeks ago.
- He also improved his nightmare run of phallusy again, this time by
one second to get 0:33.
- Since I'm not working on dzip all the time, I found time to make a few
demos myself... first I did an easy 100% of hip1m5 in 2:35,
16 seconds faster than Ilkka.
- Then Optic and I took advantage of our college connections and did some
coop... first an easy 100% of hip1m3 in 1:02,
41 seconds faster than the single player.
- And then we did a nightmare 100% marathon through the first episode. OK, maybe
Optic and I are even more crazy than Martin... After 3 hours we finally got to
the end and got a time of 9:39,
5:12 faster than when Optic did it by himself.
- Piguminati and Virusss did another coop; e1m6 - the long way, on easy, in
0:23,
two seconds faster than the single player time.
- They also did an easy run of foon
in 0:28,
five seconds faster than the previous demo.
- Johan and Carl did an easy 100% of carnage
in 1:13,
19 seconds faster than the single player time.

New SDA mirror - 5:20 PM
I have set up an ftp server with all of sda's demos on it, on my own computer.
Jesse was able to download from it at 70k/s yesterday, but it's hard to say
what results other people will have. ftp to 130.49.85.185, username/pass both
'sda'. Or just use
this link.
The demos are divded into "before june 4th" and "after june 4th" because of the
way I have them stored. There's also some of the maps (plan to get all of them
there later), as well as demos that I haven't put on the news yet.... It won't
be up *all* the time since I do like to turn my computer off when I sleep, but
it should be up a lot of the time.

Why stop at one? - 5:25 AM
A bit after posting the .dz version of Marlo's big marathon, I figured why stop
at one, and since I had time to kill, I took
Every
single player marathon, made .dz files out of them and then uploaded the
resulting 62mb of files :) (the zips were well over 100mb) Perhaps I'll do
the multi player marathons too, and the hugest of the single level demos as well
but classes start tomorrow so I dont know if I'll be able to or not. So if
you haven't got dzip yet... well you'd better :P

demos... - 2:38 AM (updated 5:00 am)
Here's some demos for you... it didn't take me nearly as long as normal to upload
them because I'm now on a faster connection :)
- Marlo improved Mattias's easy run of zer1m6 by one second to get 2:13.
- Marlo also improved Matthias's easy 100% of zer1m1 by four seconds to get 0:55.
- Esa Lahteenmaki filled the hole for the easy run of avatar by getting a time
of 6:19...
this is quite a long map you see.
- He also did a nightmare run of ih1m2 in 1:51.
- and the nightmare 100% of ih1m2 in 2:50.
- Thomas Bergendorff improved Marlo's easy run of distrub by one second
to get 0:43.
- Jozsef Szalontai improved Optic's easy run of hayduke by two seconds to
get 0:28.
- Jozsef also did an easy 100% of mbb7 in 1:20,
nine seconds faster than Matthias.
- The nightmare 100% of mbb7 as well, in 1:12.
- A nightmare run of jzblue3 in 3 seconds!,
two seconds faster than Robert.
- A nightmare run of The Bastardry in 0:22,
one second faster than Optic.
- Nightmare run of The Comm Center in 0:43,
11 seconds faster than David Eva's old demo.
- Nightmare run of hayduke in 0:37,
16 seconds faster than Optic's old demo.
- Daniel Magnusson did two demos, a nightmare 100% of beach in 0:23,
two seconds faster than his previous record.
- And he improved Marlo's easy run through the whole game of Quake by
one minute and 10 seconds to get a time of 17:05.
- Sergi Cami also did a marathon, an easy run through ep2 in 3:53,
two seconds faster than his previous record.
- We got a few coop demos from "Piguminati" and "Virusss"...
- We got a mad coop submission to, from Daniel Hansson, Carl Tholin, Johan Nilsson,
and Jonny Andersson. They did an easy 100% of e2m2 in 0:44,
but they only have the demo of the first person available.
Whoops, I forgot that Martin Selinus improved his nightmare run of
phallusy
by two seconds to get
0:34.

New dzip released! - 4:53 AM
After a few unwanted delays, Stefan and I have finally finished dzip v2.1.
It has the usual new stuff: fixes to some rare encoding problems, and loads
of new stuff for the gui. If you're like most people, the gui is probably
all you want, so you can get just that
here.
If you need a command prompt version for Windows, Linux or Solaris, or if you
want the source code for the whole thing, you can get those
here.
For some more pics of dzip, go here.
Just as another example of dzip's power, I uploaded Marlo's famous nightmare
100% through all of Quake in 86:48 as a .dz file. The .zip file of the marathon
is 7.52 MB,
but the .dz file is only 4.13 MB,
and this is lower than dzip's average performace.
So if you never got that marathon because of it's size...
well you must not have got the Nehahra movie either...
but now you can at least get marlo's marathon :P
Oh btw, you can use dzip for any kind of file, not just .dem files; it's
compression is very close to a normal .zip, sometimes even slightly better.
If you find something that doesn't seem right, or is just a plain obvious bug,
please report it to me.

wow - 4:23 AM
In this update I'm just posting one demo, even though more than it have been
sent in... because this demo deserves it's own update!
- Martin Selinus improved Ilkka Kurkela's easy run of e1m6-the long way-by
one second to get 0:25.
If you think there's any kind of mistake in this demo you must be on something
because there's not! You must check this demo out... and then ask Martin
how the hell he got so damn good :P

dzip - 4:12 AM
Well since we seem to be in a image posting mood here at SDA :) ... I'm
posting my little teaser pic to show how I've been spending too much of my
time lately:

Get off my n00tsack - 4:44 PM
Tuesday, August 15th by Nolan
Don't bug me - 9:44 PM
Here's the demo update that I put off simply because of a certain individual
bugging me to do an update...
Four demos from the map Harmsway:
- Martin Selinus improved Janne's easy run through the whole level by seven
seconds to get 1:51.
- But a few days later he improved that one by 10 seconds to get a
1:41. :)
- He also improved Optic's nightmare run of the level, using the shortcut,
by one second, to get 0:06.
- Esa Lähteenmäki did the long way on nightmare in 2:50.
Valeriy Burmistrov did a few demos:
- Easy 100% of jzblue3 in 0:16,
one second faster than his previous demo.
- Easy 100% of beach1 in 0:27,
also one second faster than his previous demo. Valeriy says that "it is very hard to save 'just one more second' when the
demo is so short."
- He improved his easy 100% coop with Vlad of bbelief7 by one second to get
0:23.
- V&V also improved Fab and I's crappy easy 100% of climb by nine seconds to
get 0:36.
Aleksander Osipov recovered some demos he did a while ago:
- Easy 100% of e4m7 in 2:05,
four seconds faster than his previous, and pretty damn close to perfect.
- Nightmare run of e4m5-the long way, in 1:03,
three seconds faster than Fabian.
R&R Axelsson improved both of Matthias and Stefan's coops on dxm, getting
0:06
on easy and
0:07
on nightmare.
Wednesday, August 9th by Nolan
Quick update - 9:08 PM
I don't feel like spending too much time on this update so I'm just going to
do a quick list of all the new demos:
- Robert Axelsoon improved Matthias's easy run of beach1 by two seconds to get
0:08.
Cool trick alert :)
- Valeriy Burmistrov improved my easy 100% of bbelief7 by three seconds
to get 0:38.
Pretty damn good I'd say, since I thought my old 0:41 was really good...
- Thomas's brother Mads-Peter improved my easy 100% of 4fiffy3 by two seconds
to get 2:36.
- Esa did the easy 100% of ih1m4 in 2:29.
- Esa did the easy 100% of phallusy in 1:48.
- Robert improved Ilkka's nightmare run of beach1 by one second to get
0:08.
- Thomas did the nightmare 100% of e3m3 with all the kills in an amazing time
of 12:54.
- Valeriy improved Stefan's nightmare 100% of bfinal by four seconds to get
0:44.
- Mads-Peter improved his previous nightmare 100% of 4fiffy3 by nine seconds
to get 2:38.
- Esa did the nightmare 100% of ih1m4 in 3:57.
- Valeriy and Vlad improved Marlo and Fab's easy 100% of bbelief7 by four
seconds to get 0:24.
- Valeriy and Vlad did an easy 100% of bfinal in 0:32.
- Valeriy and Vlad did the nightmare 100% of bfinal in 0:35.
- Robert, Alex and Rickard did an easy run of beach in 0:05.
- Robert and Alex improved Stefan and Matthias's easy run of coagula by one second to get
0:08.

mkt.pl - 10:35 AM
The mkt.pl script for displaying demos should now be working again. We'll try and make sure it stays that way! :)
